A YEAR FROM NOW YOU WILL WISH YOU HAD STARTED TODAY!

A year from now quote croppedThat’s a great quote by Karen Lamb, and we’ve put it on our Facebook page to provoke a bit of thought.

It’s so true isn’t it? How many times have you intended to start something – a weight loss diet, exercise programme, pension plan – but somehow not got around to it? A year goes by and you are a year further away from your goal.

What is it that you want to achieve now, that you haven’t yet started? Imagine it’s a year from now and you did start today. What would you be feeling? Compare that with how you will feel if you don’t start.

There’s a great book out there by Jeff Olson, called “The Slight Edge”. It explains how the little decisions we make every day compound over time to make us successful or unsuccessful. These are all easy things to do, but most importantly, very easy not to do. If we do them, over time our health, fitness, career or finances improve. If we don’t, then almost imperceptibly, gravity and the march of time lead us down the path we were hoping to avoid.

We like to tell the story of two friends, both  aged 20, and both fit and healthy. The first friend eats healthily and exercises regularly. The second prefers to sit on the sofa watching soaps and eating takeaways. After a week, there is no outer difference between the two. Still none after a few weeks. After a few months the first friend is vibrant and glowing with good health while the second friend is a few pounds heavier and lacks energy.

Fast forward a few years, and the first friend is regularly running 10Ks and looking sleek and strong. The second hates the way she looks and lacks self-confidence.

In their sixties, the first friend looks and acts like a 50 year old. She rarely gets ill and is making the most of life. The second is several stones overweight, has type 2 diabetes and is suffering with joint problems, which severely restrict what she can do with her granchildren.

Which path are you on?

The good news is that you can start making the right choices now, and in a few weeks they will have become habits that can last a lifetime. You can start small, embed those habits, and then add more. Over time, you will totally change the direction you are heading in.

So, ask yourself, are you ready to start today?

Are you looking for help to lose weight?

Now that the festive season is well and truly behind us (how quickly did that go??), lots of women and quite a few men are keen to lose weight and start a weight loss programme. They may have kicked off with a dry January (good luck with that!), but are now finding that weight loss is easier said than done.

At Ladies Workout Express, we believe in keeping it simple, so we’re big advocates of the Herbalife weight control system. It’s a high-nutrient, but low-calorie programme that is very convenient and cost-effective. Replace two meals a day with the delicious and nutritious shakes, add a protein-rich mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack, and then cook a healthy, colourful meal that all the family can enjoy. The programme is designed so that you lose weight, boost your energy and avoid those diet-busting hunger pangs!

We’re launching a 12 Week Weight Loss Challenge, starting on Monday 13th January, from 8-9pm in the gym. It’s only £39 for the 12 weeks, and £25 of that will go to a prize fund for the top three losers. If you would like more information or to book a place, visit: https://lweweightlosschallenge.eventbrite.co.uk

Participants don’t have to follow the Herbalife programme and there will be lots of information about healthy eating. We’ll cover topics like Snacking, Metabolism and Dining Out, to help you to understand how to lose weight in a healthy, steady and sustainable way. You’ll also get a detailed, individual wellness evaluation, with personalised advice.

Here’s what Fiona Ahamed had to say about the challenge: “I just wanted to thank you for the weight loss course.  I really enjoyed taking part, not only did I lose weight and feel much healthier I also learnt a lot about nutrition/exercise and I got some really good tips on how to eat a more healthy diet for the long term rather than it being just a ‘quick fix’.

In particular I found the individual detailed monitoring of weight, muscle mass, bone weight etc that you did really interesting and very helpful. I feel that I have certainly learnt a lot and I hope that knowledge will help me in my quest to live a healthier lifestyle in the future!”

Losing weight and still being able to eat? Winner!

Losing weight can feel like a life challenge. We struggle with sticking to a healthy diet and tackling hunger pains, often or not that little devil that is sat on your left shoulder wins the food war. You’ve seen our blogs about the weird diets that people will do in order to drop the pounds, but did you know that you can carry on eating normal healthy food and even the more enjoyable ones and still lose weight?

Hunger is one of the first obstacles that dieters need to combat. It can weaken your will power to stick to the diet and before you know it, these words come out of your mouth ‘I’ll start tomorrow’. However, there is a cure to this and it’s low G.I. foods. This food group is rather smart you know; G.I. measures the rate at which the body breaks down the sugars in carbs and absorbs the sugar into the bloodstream.

Unfortunately, Atkins has given carbs a bad name even though they’re an essential part to any balanced diet and remember that it’s fuel for your body. This doesn’t mean that all carbs are 100% good for you….There are good carbs and bad carbs, and some are downright hazardous to long-term health.

GI foods range in ratings. High GI foods encourage blood sugar levels to rise quickly and fall quickly, which is quickly followed by hunger cravings. On the other end of the scale, low GI foods release sugar into the bloodstream more slowly, meaning those hunger cravings are kept to a minimum and energy levels stay stable.

Of course with losing weight comes exercise and the Ladies Workout Express gym in Swinton can help you achieve your desired weight loss goals. Feeling confident is a crucial part of wanting to lose weight and this is one of the reasons why being a member of a dominating ladies gym in Manchester is the way forward.

There aren’t that many ladies gyms in Manchester, but we have found that they are becoming more popular. Why not visit the Ladies Workout Express gym in Swinton and take a look around. We have some great weight loss courses, a wellness evaluation program, as well as great classes!

Juice for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

We do love telling you about the latest diets that are flying about and they never seem to shock us; well they do because most of them are ridiculous! It’s mind boggling that we tend to follow the latest diet craze because celebrities have been known to do it and have success stories. Personally, take this with a pinch of salt and talk to a professional about which is the best way for you to diet and lose weight. The Ladies Workout Express gym in Swinton have a wealth of knowledge in weight loss and wellness, which is why we’re one of the most popular ladies gyms in Manchester.

So, the latest diet that we came across was highlighted on Channel 5, where one man lost six stone in 60 days by just consuming juice for his meals every day. Pretty hard to believe isn’t it that someone can survive on this. The juices aren’t the everyday juices that we would drink in the morning; it consists of cucumber, kale, ginger, celery and apples. We can imagine your energy levels dropping ever so slightly on this diet and it probably wouldn’t be advisable to complete a full workout afterwards, especially if you’re signed up to our Fit Camp!

With us being a ladies gym in Manchester, we understand how women think when it comes to their appearance, especially with Christmas coming up. We have a fantastic ‘Drop a Dress Size before Christmas’ course available, which is perfect for you ladies if you want to drop a few pounds in time for the festive season!

If you’re looking to join a ladies gym in Manchester or want some more information on dieting and losing weight, just get in contact with us and we’ll be more than happy to help.

Don’t waste your pounds on fad diets

Diets, diets, diets; that one word that we all frown at, but feel the pressure in losing weight. Dieting shouldn’t be something that we feel we have to do; it should be something that you want to do. Seeing lifeless, skinny women isn’t great and it certainly shouldn’t be what we all aspire to be like. Behind the skin and bones, is sometimes a life of dieting misery where someone is eating a pitiful of amount of food in order to drop the pounds quickly. But does it work? In the short run maybe, but not in the long run. If confidence is the reason behind wanting to lose weight, then joining a ladies gym in Manchester is a step in the right direction.

There are hundreds of diets out there and you wouldn’t believe that half of them are true! Women will go to extreme lengths and use laxatives to diet, and this is quite a risky business! We can’t imagine eating baby food or sticking to cabbage soup diet as your main meals, day in, day out; sounds appetising! If you think they sound bad, how does eating vegetables for dinner sound or eating something that you know will make you sick? Not great is it?

These fad diets can do more harm to your body than you might realise. Do you lose weight quickly? Not necessarily. Losing weight is a long-term process that should be well managed and approached with care. A healthy balanced diet and regular exercise is key to losing weight. Here at The Ladies Workout Express gym, we don’t only have a team of dedicated and qualified trainers, but we also have a wellness programme available.

There aren’t a lot of ladies gyms in Manchester and that is why we take a strong interest in all of our members. The atmosphere down at our club is friendly, welcoming and chilled. In fact, we’re all on first name terms!

Have a chat with us today for more information on dieting and joining the number one ladies gym.

Feeling Sluggish?

Everyone experiences that feeling of being bloated; it’s uncomfortable and can put a downer on your day. People can feel a little self-conscience, especially women; but we’ve found a few handy tips from ‘Women’s Fitness’ that can help you prevent this bloated feeling.

Firstly, instead of having big heavy meals, swap them for smaller but more frequent ones. Big meals can sit on your stomach and can often take longer to digest, but by eating smaller meals and often, it won’t overtake your digestive system. Here’s a fact for you; did you know that baked beans are lower in raffinose, which are the sugars that help to combat that bloated feeling? “Beans beans, good for your heart…”

It’s always good to have a balance of good and bad bacteria, and probiotic drinks or yoghurts can help. Probiotic drinks don’t always taste great, but they’ll be gone in less than 10 seconds and we’re sure you can cope! Carbs are the biggest culprits for feeling like you’re about to pop, so just cut back on the amount that you eat, as too much can cause you to feel unsettled and they take longer to digest. By reducing the portion size of the carbs you eat, or swapping them for lower GI ones such as, whole wheat pasta/ rice, grainy breads, porridge etc… they will all help to prevent feeling bloated and sluggish.

Potassium rich foods are also great in helping with your digestive system. This includes bananas, beetroot and orange juice. They can counteract water of excess sodium. Reducing the salt intake can also help.

It isn’t just watching what you eat that can prevent feeling bloated, exercise is also a great way to keep your digestive system flowing. Don’t forget that the Ladies Workout Express gym has a team of professional trainers who will be able to advice you on the food groups and how to help combat this bloated feeling that gets us all down. We’re one of the leading ladies gyms in Manchester, so if you’re not already a member, come down to our club in Swinton and we’ll be more than happy to show you the ropes.

Eat like a Greek!

Ladies Gym

We all know that Greek food and well, most Mediterranean diets can all help you to lead a healthy lifestyle. But not only this, recent research shows that it can also work wonders for the brain.

Eating more fresh fruit and vegetables, and using olive oil, can help to lower the risk of dementia and other age related diseases. As well as this, the healthy Mediterranean diet can also help to prevent strokes. The research was taken by the National Institute for Health Research and Care in South Peninsula. Their findings showed that out of the 12 studies, 9 of them indicated that an adherence to the Mediterranean diet was associated with a better cognitive decline and a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s.

So there you have it ladies! Not only is the Mediterranean diet good for your physical health, but your mental health too. Here at the Ladies Workout Express, we love this particular cuisine. You can’t beat a good Greek salad or Spanish stew.

The Ladies Workout Express gym in Swinton is a women’s fitness club that has a range of specially designed circuit equipment. Our machines provide strength training and aerobic exercises because of their dual-resistance hydraulic system with no pins.
